BRIEF: Red Sox pick Comcast to connect ballparks

Apr 12, 2012 (Boston Herald - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Comcast Corp. announced today the Boston Red Sox have selected the company's business class metro ethernet to provide high-speed communications at both Fenway Park and the team's new spring training facility in Fort Myers, Fla.

The ethernet services will deliver secure and high-performance Internet connectivity to support members of the media and Red Sox staff and provide in-game Internet service for fans, the company said.

"The sports industry has changed dramatically in the last 15 years in its use of technology -- from the use of video files in scouting players to the need for high-speed connectivity at the park so media can post photos, video clips, commentary and stories before, during and after games," said the team's IT director Steve Conley. "We are in a media-centric business, and Comcast business class metro ethernet provides us with the bandwidth to accommodate the Internet reliability and performance needed for reporters, photographers and television crews, with the flexibility to quickly add more bandwidth in the future as we need it." ira.kantor@bostonherald.com ___ (c)2012 the Boston Herald Visit the Boston Herald at www.bostonherald.com Distributed by MCT Information Services
