Riverbed to Demonstrate Performance Platform at Department of Defense Intelligence Information Systems Conference
SAN FRANCISCO, CA, Apr 02, 2012 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) --
Riverbed Technology (NASDAQ: RVBD), the performance company, today
announced it is participating at the Department of Defense
Intelligence Information Systems (DoDIIS) Worldwide Conference taking
place April 1-5, 2012 at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver,
Colo. The DoDIIS Worldwide Conference will focus on the Defense
Intelligence Agency (DIA) CIO's commitment and intent to unify
defense intelligence infrastructure and information sharing
initiatives. At the conference, Riverbed(R) (booth #718) will
demonstrate its performance solutions, which are utilized by
government agencies to analyze, accelerate and control their IT
infrastructure, resulting in improved collaboration across remote
locations.
The DoDIIS Worldwide Conference brings together 2,000 participants
from across the world, and supports a wide-range of government,
civilian, military, and industry partners interested in networking,
collaborating, and bringing new resourceful solutions to solve IT
challenges. Government IT experts will keynote and host interactive
training sessions on best practices for information sharing and how
to transition to an enterprise IT environment.
This year, the conference theme is "Advancing Mission Integration,"
which will focus on solutions and best practices to further enable
collaboration between the Intelligence Community (IC) and Department
of Defense Information Technology. Visitors to the Riverbed booth can
learn how the company's performance platform enables government
agencies to meet the most demanding IT goals in serving the needs of
citizens, achieving mission targets, and supporting warfighters.
Fostering Collaboration by Accelerating Applications and Network
Traffic
As IT resources are centralized and end users move farther
from the data center, latency on the WAN increases, which impedes
access to mission-critical data and applications, and can decrease
productivity and collaboration. In addition, real-time applications
such as video streaming, Voice-over-IP, and desktop virtualization
initiatives often consume the most bandwidth and perform poorly on
consolidated servers. To overcome application and network performance
challenges and foster a collaborative working environment, Riverbed
Steelhead(R) appliances accelerate application traffic across the WAN
between the data center and branch office, enabling geographically
and departmentally dispersed personnel to meet operational
objectives.
To maximize limited funds, agencies are adopting desktop
virtualization initiatives and creating secure configurations for an
end user's device, whether it is government-issued or a personal
laptop, which decreases the amount of devices that need to be
purchased, managed, and refreshed. Implementing a desktop
virtualization infrastructure (VDI) without adequate network
performance can result in a poor end-user experience with delayed
keystrokes and mouse movements. Steelhead products reduce the
bandwidth required for VDI and provide enhanced support for VDI
solutions, including Citrix XenDesktop, Microsoft(R) RemoteFX, and
VMware View(TM), to enable collaboration amongst mobile workers and
end users at branch locations.
Achieving Consolidation by Gaining Visibility
Network performance
is one challenge associated with the Federal Data Center
Consolidation Initiative (FDCCI) as poor performance can severely
impact end users trying to access services and applications over the
wide area network (WAN). The FDCCI mandates the closure of at least
800 government data centers by 2015. Riverbed supports the
consolidation of servers and eliminates the need for additional
infrastructure at branch office locations with its Virtual Services
Platform (VSP), which allows IT to run additional network
infrastructure services and applications within the Steelhead EX
appliance.
These consolidation efforts are driving an increased need to identify
IT assets and existing infrastructure and the ability to optimize
mission-critical applications and data. Riverbed Cascade(R), an
application-aware network performance management (NPM) solution,
provides defense and intelligence agencies with complete network
visibility to quickly map IT assets and their dependencies, reducing
the risk of network outages during consolidation of infrastructure.
In addition, this level of visibility enables the IT manager to make
decisions about which applications to optimize to improve
productivity and collaboration amongst end users. Accelerated
performance of applications and the network enhances collaboration
between joint-forces and civilian personnel.
Improving Performance and Security of Web-based Applications
To
further enable collaboration amongst defense agencies and civilian
personnel, agencies leverage the Riverbed Stingray(TM) family, which
delivers reliability, scalability, performance, and security to
Web-based applications. Stingray Aptimizer accelerates Web-based
applications such as Microsoft(R) SharePoint(R) by optimizing web
content to deliver performance across networks and devices. Defense
agencies can efficiently manage workloads by prioritizing different
categories of users and scaling web and application infrastructure
during peaks with Stingray Traffic Manager, which increases
productivity and collaboration. Web-based applications that host
classified information need a comprehensive security solution.
Stingray Web Application Firewall proactively secures applications by
establishing a secure session identifier, proactively encrypts
cookies and URLs, and applies site usage enforcement, ensuring a
secure perimeter around the application, decreasing the vulnerability
of the application to security attacks.
