Carson Daly Tweets Apology for Gay Joke on Radio Show

LOS ANGELES, Mar 29, 2012 (KTLA-TV - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Carson Daly is apologizing for a gay joke he made on his radio show.

On Tuesday, Daly was discussing the mid-flight meltdown of a JetBlue pilot who was locked out of the cockpit by his co-pilot and restrained by passengers.

"Most of the people were on their way to some sort of security conference in Las Vegas," Daly said. "It was like a bunch of dudes, and well-trained dudes." "The Voice" host then quipped that, given his luck, his fellow passengers would not have been as capable of wrangling the pilot.

Daly said, "It would be like, 'This is the flight going to [the gay pride parade] in San Francisco.' I mean, that would be my colleagues." A contrite Daly later tweeted, "This morning on my radio show, I attempted to make fun of myself and offended others by mistake. I sincerely apologize." A spokesman for GLAAD told KTLA that they have been in dialogue with Daly, who provided them with the following statement: "We live in a time where gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender individuals find courage every day to overcome adversity, stand up to bullying and find equality. I'm truly saddened that my words today suggested otherwise. I've long been a supporter of Gay and Lesbian rights, and I'm saddened that my comments, however unintentional, offended anyone, specifically members of the LGBT community. The fact that I have hurt anyone is devastating. I'm not that guy. I'm proud to be an ally of the LGBT community and will continue to fight with them." GLAAD offered this statement: :While it's up to the public to judge the sincerity of Daly's sentiments here, GLAAD looks forward to taking him up on his offer to fight with us for the full equality of LGBT Americans." ___ (c)2012 KTLA-TV (Los Angeles) Visit KTLA-TV (Los Angeles) at www.ktla.com Distributed by MCT Information Services
