Online Tech Gets EPA's Energy Star Certification for Superior Energy Efficiency

Mar 30, 2012 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) -- Online Tech announced that it is a Michigan data center operator to earn the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA's) Energy Star certification, which signifies that the facility performs in the top 25 percent of similar facilities nationwide for energy efficiency and meets strict energy efficiency performance levels set by the EPA.

"Online Tech prioritized an investment in energy efficient improvements last year. The benefits affect our company, our clients, and the environment - a win-win-win situation," said Jason Yaeger, Online Tech Director of Operations. "We're excited to accept EPA's Energy Star certification in recognition of better energy efficiency." The Company said that earning the Energy Star certification puts Online Tech in the top 25 percent of data center facilities in the nation with regard to energy performance. Online Tech improved its energy performance by managing energy strategically across the entire organization and by making changes to its Mid-Michigan data center.

"Improving the energy efficiency of our nation's industrial facilities is critical to protecting our environment," said Jean Lupinacci, Chief of the Energy Star Commercial & Industrial Branch. "From the plant floor to the board room, organizations are leading the way by making their facilities more efficient and earning EPA's Energy Star certification." According to a release, Online Tech has achieved balancing a fully redundant and audited IT infrastructure while meeting national energy efficiency standards. Online Tech's Mid-Michigan data center facility has all of the proper data center power, network infrastructure, security and cooling capacity in place to provide high availability hosting and a secure, audited hosting environment fit to suit a variety of compliance needs, including PCI and HIPAA.

The Company noted that Energy Star was introduced by EPA in 1992 as a voluntary, market-based partnership to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through energy efficiency. Today, the Energy Star label can be found on more than 60 different kinds of products as well as new homes and commercial and industrial buildings that meet strict energy-efficiency specifications set by the EPA. Last year alone, Americans, with the help of Energy Star, saved $18 billion on their energy bills while reducing the greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to those of 34 million vehicles.
