Senator Boxer Applauds Overwhelming Bipartisan Support for Final Passage of Major Transportation Jobs Bill

Mar 15, 2012 (Congressional Documents and Publications/ContentWorks via COMTEX) -- Washington, D.C. - Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Chairman of the Environment and Public Works Committee (EPW), issued the following statement today after the Senate voted 74 to 22 to pass the surface transportation bill, Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century (MAP-21).

Senator Boxer said: "It is a great day when the Senate, in an overwhelmingly bipartisan way, votes to save 1.8 million jobs and create up to 1 million more jobs. My deepest thanks to EPW Committee's Ranking Member, Senator James Inhofe, for being such a great partner in this effort. I call on the House of Representatives to take our bill, pass it, and send it to the President's desk so that we can give a needed boost to our economic recovery and our aging infrastructure." Senator Boxer and Senator James Inhofe (R-OK) worked together with their Senate colleagues to develop the two-year surface transportation bill, which will maintain funding at current levels, indexed for inflation. The current transportation authorization is set to expire on March 31st.
