BRIEF: New iPad set for Friday release

Mar 15, 2012 (Tulsa World - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Another year, another iPad, another batch of lines.

Apple's latest version of the iPad officially hits store shelves on Friday morning. Though online pre-orders sold out quickly, the company has promised it will ship the tablets to store shelves by that day.

Though previous iPads have drawn interest and lines in stores throughout the Tulsa area, the largest lines are expected to be at the Apple Store at Woodland Hills Mall.

Mall officials said they anticipate at least 500 people showing up for the store's 8 a.m. opening, with mall doors opening up at 6 a.m.

Other stores that will be getting Friday shipments of iPads from Apple include Best Buy, Radio Shack, Sam's Club, Target and Walmart.

The new iPad features a sharper screen, more RAM, 1080p video recording, voice recognition and 4G cellular capabilities.

The latest version will carry the same initial prices as the previous models, namely $499 for 16GB, $599 for 32GB, $699 for 64GB and an additional $130 for each of the cellular versions.

At the same time, the price of each of the iPad 2 models will drop by $100.
