Intelsat to Use EPOCH IPS From Kratos ISI to Operate the Intelsat 27 Satellite

(GlobeNewswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) SAN DIEGO, March 13, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Kratos Defense & Security Solutions (Nasdaq:KTOS) announced today that Intelsat has exercised an option to have Kratos Integral Systems International, Inc. (Kratos ISI) extend its EPOCH Integrated Product Suite (IPS)-based Fleet Control System to operate the Intelsat 27 satellite, which is currently under construction.

Intelsat 27 is the third of the Boeing 702MP series of 702 satellites and the 26th Boeing 702 to be supported by EPOCH. This option was exercised based on Kratos ISI's outstanding performance in delivering the required EPOCH IPS capability for Intelsat to operate its other two 702MP satellites, Intelsat 21 and Intelsat 22, on a short schedule.

"Intelsat 27 will be the 29th satellite we will be operating on the EPOCH IPS platform. EPOCH provides us the capability to rapidly deploy satellite, command and control solutions that are technically advanced and portable, allowing for greater flexibility in our operations," said Tobias Nassif, Vice President of Intelsat's satellite engineering and operations. "As our satellite operations center now flies 76 FSS satellites, including 25 third-party satellites, at our redundant control centers, the EPOCH IPS platform allows us to operate in a highly efficient manner without sacrificing the industry-leading availability for which Intelsat is famous." "Intelsat relies on Kratos ISI and our EPOCH IPS to meet its challenging technology requirements on schedule," said James Kramer, Senior Vice President of Kratos ISI. "The flexibility of our EPOCH IPS design and the experience of our personnel allow us to work with Intelsat to meet their ever-growing needs." EPOCH IPS is the market leading all-in-one satellite Command & Control and fleet management system operable from a user's desktop, making it a more efficient alternative to costly command and monitoring practices. EPOCH IPS currently supports satellite designs from every major commercial geostationary satellite manufacturer, including clients such as SKY Perfect JSAT, AsiaSat, Broadcasting Satellite System Corporation (B-SAT), Chunghwa Telecom, Indovision, KT Corporation, SingTel/Optus, Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT), Intelsat, SES, Telesat, EchoStar and Hellas Sat. Government clients include the National Space Organization of Taiwan, European Organization for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT), NASA, the U.S. Air Force and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) among many others.
