GovSec 2012 Tackles Challenges of Preventing and Investigating Cybercrimes and Cyberterrorism

FAIRFAX, Va. --(Business Wire)--

The threat of cyberattacks and cyberterrorism is growing exponentially as foreign governments, organized crime, terrorist organizations or rogue individuals become more sophisticated at using technology to their advantage. At GovSec - the Government Security Conference & Expo featuring the U.S. Law Enforcement Conference & Expo taking place in Washington, D.C., April 2-4 - attendees from law enforcement and homeland security agencies can hear about the latest threats from experts, including top brass at the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), while learning about the strategies and new tools that enable them to prevent and investigate a wide variety of high-tech crimes.

"Cybercrime is a booming business, costing more than $114 billion globally each year, according to industry estimates. But high-tech threats are becoming even more high stakes, with evidence mounting that China, other foreign governments and terrorist organizations are gaining access to the computer systems that manage our critical infrastructure," said Don Berey, event director at GovSec. "This year at GovSec, we've designed our program to prepare attendees to deal with ever-evolving challenges they may face when trying to protect our nation's economy, critical infrastructure, communications systems and computer networks from cybercrime and cyberterrorism."

Free Programming & Expo

Among the free programming at GovSec is a keynote on Tuesday, April 3 at 9:15 a.m. by FBI Cyber Division Assistant Director Gordon M. Snow, who leads the country's effort to investigate high-tech crimes, including cyber-based terrorism, computer intrusions and major frauds. In his remarks, Snow will address the FBI's efforts to combat cybercrime and how the agency is continually developing new techniques and resources to protect citizens from these crimes.

Qualified attendees also have the opportunity to see the cutting-edge products available for ensuring cybersecurity at the GovSec trade show, as well as the expo at FOSE, the premier government information technology (IT) event that is taking place concurrently with GovSec. Solutions on display at the expo include biometrics, data recovery and business continuity, data security services, digital forensics, encryption, identity management, network access control and security, threat and vulnerability management, threat prevention and asset recovery, Web application security and wireless security.

In addition, the GovSec expo includes free featured presentations on topics including:
