Solar charger that will store power for week in the works [DNA : Daily News & Analysis (India)]

(DNA : Daily News & Analysis (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Very soon, you will able to charge cellphone and laptop on the move, thanks to a handy device being developed as the world's first integrated solar storage tile. The device christened as Amrita Smart uses a super capacitor aided by nano technology and will hit the market within a year.

If the research at the Kochi-based Amrita Centre for Nano Sciences is anything to go by, this charging product 'Amrita Smart' device will combine a solar cell and a battery to power devices. Stating that energy generation and storage must go hand-in-hand, Shanti Nair, director, Amrita Centre for Nano Sciences said, "Development of the solar storage tile is a milestone in both nano-solar aided research and in the field of renewable energy sector." In all, weighing 200 gram, the patented product uses special electronics to integrate the solar cell with the storage device.

The products are capable of charging a laptop or a cellphone and which can be extended for building integrated solar storage and usage (home use) at night without the need for expensive battery systems.

The solar modules needs only four hours of charging exposure in sun, and later charges the laptops and cellphones in two more hours. It has storage capacity of seven days.

15kW power plant in MP Global solar energy services producer SunEdison has launched a 15 KW solar power plant in Meerwada, a remote village in Madhya Pradesh's Guna district that is first to be selected by the company as part of its rural electrification programme -  SunEdison Eradicating Darkness. SunEdison plans to electrify remote villages across India, Africa and south-east Asia through solar powered mini-grids.
