The Illuminator to Shine a Light for the 99% MovementNEW YORK --(Business Wire)-- The Occupy Wall Street movement has been crystal clear to some, and cloudy to others, but it has consistently shone a light on issues such as wealth inequality and crony capitalism; issues that had previously been largely left out of the national dialogue. Now, The Illuminator is on the scene to shine that light even brighter than before, bringing the core messages of Occupy Wall Street to a broader public. Its inaugural performance will occur at several locations and times throughout the evening and will showcase The Illuminator's ability to enliven the effort of the 99% with creative spectacle. The Illuminator is a cargo van equipped with video and audio projection equipment as well a fully stocked infoshop and mini-library. It is designed to bring relevant news, often largely censored by the mainstream media, as well as related films and music, to a range of communities as it travels around the country, using multiple media platforms. The Illuminator will broadcast inspirational messages, vintage cartoons, modern-day and classic comedians, as well as documentary and feature films - all reflecting the spirit of the occupy movement in the hope of spurring lively conversation and even debate. The Illuminator transforms public space into a forum for public conversation, entertainment and education. It specializes in community engagement by disrupting the patterns of everyday life, and embodies the social and political transformations for which the 99% movement continues to fight. The Illuminator is a collaboration between Mark Read, Ben Cohen (of Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream), and artist Christopher Hackett (Stuck with Hackett, Discovery Channel). The trio promises that The Illuminator is the first of two specialized vehicles to share the message of the 99%.
