Allied Electronics Now Taking Orders for Raspberry Pi

FORT WORTH, TX, Mar 02, 2012 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) -- Allied Electronics, a trading brand of Electrocomponents plc (LSE: ECM), is now taking orders for Raspberry Pi, a miniature, single-board, ARM-based computer that plugs into a TV and a keyboard.

This revolutionary, credit card-sized computer functions much like a desktop computer, with abilities for spreadsheets, word-processing, games and High-Definition video.

"With tens of thousands of customers looking to order on the Allied Electronics website since the launch of Raspberry Pi on February 29, we clearly understand how excited customers are about this ground-breaking product," says Scott McLendon, vice president of product management and marketing at Allied. "A limited number of Raspberry Pi Model B units have been manufactured to date and will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis." Estimates vary as to when large quantities of the unit will be available. Allied Electronics will keep all interested parties fully apprised of new details via Allied's social media outlets on Facebook and Twitter. Customers can go to www.alliedelec.com/raspberrypi to backorder Raspberry Pi. In order to get the product to as many different parties as possible, order quantities will be limited to one per customer until additional manufacturing capacity is brought online. Purchasers will be kept up-to-date with the progress of product availability.
