Huawei Joined Tizen Association


Feb 29, 2012 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- Chinese mobile phone manufacturer Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd has joined Tizen Association and announced that it would use Tizen system to develop mobile phones.

In addition, the company has also joined the board of directors of Tizen Association. Other board members include Intel Corporation (NASDAQ: INTC), NEC, Casio Computer Co., Ltd, NTT DoCoMo, Inc (NYSE: DCM), UK and French biggest mobile operator Orange, Panasonic Corporation (NYSE: PC), Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd, Korea-based SK Telecom (NYSE: SKM), Spanish Telefonica S.A. (NYSE: TEF) and Vodafone Group Plc (NASDAQ: VOD). Tizen Association also launched open-source Tizen beta version and windows-version Tizen application development kits.



Tizen operating system takes Linux as base, combines high-end webpage application interface and integrates MeeGo operating system, an intelligent mobile operating system based on Linux platform and launched by Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) and Intel. MeeGo ended up in failure eventually.

Huawei spokesman made a statement that although Huawei joined Tizen, it did not mean that the company would adopt Tizen as the exclusive operating system. The spokesman added that the company would continue to work closely with consumers and partners so as to bring about real innovative mobile products to consumers in different markets, while the new Tizen industrial chain had just complemented the current key areas of Huawei.
