911 Enable's Emergency Gateway Appliance Completes Certification with Microsoft Lync

MONTREAL, Feb. 28, 2012 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- 911 Enable, an industry expert in E911 for IP telephony, today announced that its award-winning E911 management appliance, the Emergency Gateway (EGW), has been qualified in the E911 ELIN Gateway category in the Microsoft Unified Communications Open Interoperability Program (UCOIP). The EGW complements the inherent E911 functionality of Microsoft Lync Server 2010 and helps organizations meet their specific E911 requirements.

(Logo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20120228/NY59579LOGO) The EGW is an on-site appliance that provides organizations using Lync Server 2010 with additional E911 management capabilities which may be required in certain customer scenarios. First, the EGW provides interoperability with the local exchange carrier (LEC) legacy E911 call routing solution. This may be beneficial for organizations with a large campus that requires granular location delivery to a single public safety answering point [PSAP]. Second, for organizations with Lync Server 2010 deployed alongside other IP phone systems (e.g. Cisco, Avaya), the EGW acts as a Secondary Location Information Server to centralize E911 management in a multi-vendor environment. This eliminates the need for organizations to adopt piecemeal E911 solutions and perform redundant management tasks.

The EGW also provides a number of additional features that can enhance an organization's E911 solution, including Layer 2 discovery for soft phones, a security desk screen pop alert, and 911 call recording. It also seamlessly interoperates with 911 Enable's Emergency Routing Service (ERS) to provide organizations with Next-Generation E911 call routing capabilities.

"Microsoft Lync Server 2010 helps address many of the common E911 management requirements that organizations have," said Lev Deich, Director of 911 Enable. "The EGW is designed to provide extended E911 capabilities that some organizations may require, and we are excited to have it qualified in the Microsoft UCOIP for integration with Lync." "911 Enable's Emergency Gateway allows organizations using Microsoft Lync to implement an E911 solution," said Kapil Sharma, Principal Group Program Manager of Lync at Microsoft. "Microsoft is pleased to be working with 911 Enable to help ensure our mutual customers can deploy a comprehensive E911 solution that meets their unique needs."
