Latvia's Leading Telecommunications Company Selects Enterasys Wireless LAN to Support Half Million Customers

ANDOVER, Mass., Feb. 27, 2012 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Enterasys Networks, a Siemens Enterprise Communications Company, today announced that Lattelecom, Latvia's leading telecommunications company, has deployed an Enterasys OneFabric Edge architecture to provide wireless LAN service to more than a half million customers. To support its objective of becoming the largest wireless provider in Latvia, Lattelecom selected Enterasys Wireless solutions to provide stable, secure "cloud wireless" access to its growing customer base. Baltic Premier Partners partnered with Enterasys to ensure a seamless delivery of an optimized wireless system to Lattelecom.

The enhanced wireless capabilities of Lattelecom's WLAN offerings has enabled Latvia's banks, hotels, retail chains and gas stations to offer reliable wireless service to its customers. The improved wireless offerings allow these businesses to provide advanced services such as VoWiFi to meet customer expectations for wired-like performance with seamless mobility.

Included in Lattelecom's wireless upgrade are Enterasys Wireless Controllers, Access Points (APs) and the Wireless Management Suite (WMS) to consolidate management information from across the entire WLAN to provide a global network perspective.

The Enterasys Wireless solution enabled Lattelecom to implement a highly scalable private cloud model where the controller is centralized at their data center. A true cloud-ready solution, Enterasys Wireless features intelligent access points that provide various deployment options, including support for both centralized and distributed network architectures and work with any existing network without the need for the time-consuming reconfigurations required by other wireless solutions. The access points can operate as network sensors with IPS capabilities, reducing the amount of equipment needed to deploy a secure WLAN.

"To support customer demands and reduce operating costs, we needed a wireless solution that could provide stable wireless coverage for our customers while being manageable to operate," said Uldis Tatarcuks, Director of Technology of Lattelecom. "The Enterasys wireless solutions provided us with one common network, which prevents users from having to switch from multiple access points in one building, allowing for continuous, reliable wireless coverage." To ensure a lower total cost of ownership, Lattelecom required reliable APs that could support future wireless capabilities while requiring little maintenance. Since deploying the Enterasys APs, Lattelecom has experienced a significant decrease in the amount of time required from field technicians to install and configure the devices. Plus, the number of Enterasys APs requiring service from field technicians is dramatically lower compared to their previous solution.

"We worked closely with Enterasys in providing Lattelecom with a quality wireless offering - allowing them to win new customers who are seeking high-performance wireless capabilities," said Tarass Popovs, CEO, Baltic Premier Partners. "The expertise and experience offered by Enterasys coupled with their superior customer support provides us with peace-of-mind knowing that our customers are receiving the best wireless experience possible."
