Element Mobile Participates in Wisconsin-wide Network Optimization

(PRWEB) February 22, 2012 As a part of a mandated network update to improve nationwide cellular phone service, Element Mobile’s customers are part of a network system optimization taking place this week. The optimization, which requires a setting to be updated on users’ handsets, will happen automatically for most customers. Some will need to perform the update manually.


The system optimization is called a frequency retune, and is part of a cooperative effort with other wireless providers using similar frequencies. This cooperation is mandated by the Federal Communications Commission for wireless telecommunications providers. Element Mobile is scheduled to perform the update overnight Thursday, February 23, 2012.

The system update will provide the following benefits:    •      Increased handset battery life    •     Better handset performance on the nationwide cellular service network    •     Fewer signal conflicts “We are always working to provide the best service to our customers by keeping their system up to date,” John Steele, director of engineering and network operations. “This network optimization will allow our customers to have the best service possible.” This week’s update should be invisible for most customers because Element has prepared for this event by updating a large portion of customers’ device settings over its wireless network, Steele said.


A small number of customers, mostly those who spend the majority of their time outside of Element’s eight-county home network service area, may find that their settings have not been automatically updated. In this event, they may find that some or all of their data services, including MMS (picture mail) and email may be disrupted.

If a customer finds that their mobile device’s data services are disrupted on Friday, February 24, 2012 they can resolve the situation by returning to Element’s home service area and dialing *228, and selecting option 2.
