Harris Corporation Completes PSCR Program Phase 1 Public Safety LTE TestingFeb 22, 2012 (M2 PRESSWIRE via COMTEX) -- Highlights: Harris completes Phase 1 PSCR Program LTE Demonstration Network Test Plan; advances to Phase 2 and 3. Testing demonstrates that Harris LTE infrastructure can meet requirements for a national public safety broadband network. Reaffirms Harris' commitment to delivering a proven and tested user experience to U.S. first responders. MELBOURNE, FL/LAS VEGAS, -- (IWCE, Booth #5025) -- Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, has successfully completed Phase 1 of the Public Safety Communications Research (PSCR) Program LTE (Long Term Evolution) Demonstration Network Test Plan. Harris will move on to Phases 2 and 3, and continue to partner with the PSCR program in Boulder, Colorado to ensure future broadband deployments meet the evolving needs of first responders. Completion of Phase 1 of the PSCR program means that PSCR performed basic functionality testing of Public Safety Band 14 LTE infrastructure using equipment delivered by Harris to the PSCR Demonstration Network. The testing demonstrated that the Public Safety Band 14 LTE infrastructure met key 3GPP requirements for Physical Layer, Messaging/Protocol, Application Testing, and Performance. Participation in the PSCR Demonstration Network and completion of the Phase 1 testing demonstrates that the Harris LTE infrastructure is capable meeting the requirements for a national public safety broadband network. Additionally: The PSCR Demonstration Network tested Harris' Radio Access Network (RAN) infrastructure connected to its Chelmsford, Mass. LTE core. This particular architecture -- a local RAN connected to a multi-tenant remote core, is consistent with many agencies' future LTE needs because it minimizes the cost and time required for deployment within any given geographic area. Harris continues to support the PSCR Demonstration Network with both LTE User Equipment and LTE Network Infrastructure. The company anticipates beginning the Phase 2 testing -- which provides further advanced performance testing, network stress testing, and interoperability testing -- in March, 2012. "Our completion of PSCR Phase 1 testing affirms Harris' commitment to delivering a proven and tested user experience to U.S. first responders," said Chuck Shaughnessy, vice president, Harris Public Safety and Professional Communications. "To meet mission requirements of today and tomorrow, it's important we achieve interoperability across three critical levels -- the network, device, and application levels." The PSCR demonstration network was developed to help ensure that public safety broadband communications systems can work together, and meet users' expectations. As a program participant, Harris is fully committed to providing an ultra-reliable, interoperable, and secure LTE solution backed by options for flexibility in business models that justify deployment.
