Chunghwa Telecom Labs Joins HomeGrid Forum as Promoter Member

(Marketwire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) BEAVERTON, OR -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 02/21/12 -- News highlights: Chunghwa Telecom Labs (CHT-TL) becomes member of HomeGrid Forum and embraces G.hn home networking technology Membership closely follows world-first demonstration of interoperability of G.hn at Las Vegas CES Show Chunghwa Telecom Labs (CHT-TL), the research institute of Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan's leading telecom service provider, has become a member of the HomeGrid Forum and throws its weight behind the growing momentum for G.hn. The announcement comes just weeks after silicon vendors staged a highly successful demonstration of interoperability of G.hn products at the CES event in Las Vegas (January 10-13 2012).

CHT-TL joins many other service providers and vendors that have chosen to add G.hn to the portfolio of new technologies they support. As a Promoter Member, CHT-TL is able to contribute to the future development of the Forum by participating in member-only events and serving on workgroups, by reviewing and commenting on draft specifications, pre-release documents and other materials. The organization's representative is also eligible for election to the HomeGrid Forum Board of Directors.

G.hn technology has been specifically developed to allow network devices to transmit data over any home wiring, from power lines to coaxial cables and phone lines, G.hn provides high performance capabilities and will revolutionize the home networking market.

"G.hn is a highly attractive and helpful solution to reduce home wiring deployment obstacles while we promote diverse digital home services to our customers," said Yuan-Kuang Tu, President of CHT-TL. "Joining the HomeGrid Forum will allow us to participate and help promote this high-speed technology in Taiwan." G.hn technology is advancing rapidly towards first certified products. In January the first public G.hn multi-vendor interoperability demonstrations were held, with silicon companies Lantiq, Marvell Semiconductor, Metanoia Communications, and Sigma Designs, Inc. all taking part. This is a significant step towards the widespread adoption of G.hn technology during 2012.

"We are delighted that CHT-TL has decided to join the HomeGrid Forum," said Matt Theall, President of HomeGrid Forum. "This is ideal timing with such tangible progress being made in interoperability and certification. Service providers and equipment vendors now have access to an unprecedented number of G.hn silicon sources from HomeGrid Forum members. Certified products will follow very rapidly this year."
