Zhone Technologies Introduces New zNID Optical Network Terminals to European Market at Annual FTTH Conference in Munich, Germany(Thomson Reuters ONE (English) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Zhone Technologies Introduces New zNID Optical Network Terminals to European Market at Annual FTTH Conference in Munich, Germany Ever-increasing bandwidth demands in Europe mandate high-performance, cost- efficient solution Oakland, CA - February 13, 2012 - Zhone Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: ZHNE), a global pioneer in FTTx network access solutions, today announced that it will introduce its new zNID 24xx Gigabit Ethernet (GE) Optical Network Terminals (ONTs) to the European market at the annual FTTH Conference in Munich, Germany, February 14-16, 2012. The new Active Ethernet indoor ONTs, part of the zNID 24xx series indoor ONTs, provide a cost-efficient, high performance solution for delivering high bandwidth services. Zhone is showcasing its zNID Active Ethernet indoor ONT portfolio at the FTTH Conference (stand #S22), designed to meet the needs of the bandwidth intensive services being deployed to homes and businesses. Integrating and leveraging the Zhone Management System (ZMS(TM)) and Zhone EZ Touch Provisioning System(TM), the indoor ONTs are ideal for service providers and their customers' needs and can be conveniently deployed on the desktop or wall-mounted. In addition, Zhone will display the expanded next-generation broadband access solutions portfolio, the Zhone FiberHome(TM), with the MXP-160/260 and MXP-180/280 1U Single Line Multi-Service (SLMS) platforms. The new offerings provide advanced multi-play connectivity to global voice, data, and video service providers. "Increased bandwidth demand remains a serious issue in Europe, especially as service providers continue to introduce more advanced triple- and quad-play services and identify new cost-effective ways to provide FTTx connectivity and improve mobile backhaul capabilities," said Brian Caskey, chief marketing officer of Zhone. "Zhone's presence at FTTH in Munich will showcase our dedication to support all service providers - whether mobile operators, telcos, utilities or cable operators - for a painless migration to the next generation of high-bandwidth, high-speed network technologies without significant investment requirements. We want to ensure that the service providers are maximizing all infrastructure assets available during this transition and fully utilizing fiber or copper technologies." The introduction of Zhone's latest ONT portfolio to the European market comes at the ideal time. According to the Broadband Forum by Point Topic, IPTV in Europe is approaching 55 million subscribers, holding the top regional position over Asia. Zhone's MXK(TM) platform and the applications in the Zhone FiberHome(TM) and Zhone FiberCell(TM) portfolios are serving as a core enabler of operators' broadband expansion efforts for residential and wireless backhaul markets. It is also designed specifically to support the needs of operators' migration from ADSL residential and narrowband wireless to broadband over fiber and wireless broadband across global regions. Zhone also recently announced the deployment of more than 3,000 MXK(TM) multi-service access node (MSAN) platforms worldwide. The Zhone FiberHome portfolio provides compact, fully programmable, high performance solutions that enable service providers to cost-effectively generate additional revenue through multi-play offerings, including the different iterations of video services emerging in the marketplace. Zhone's high-speed solution is based on Very High-bit-rate Digital Subscriber Line (VDSL2) and enables up to 100Mbps symmetrical connectivity in areas where fiber is cost prohibitive. In these cases, as an end-to-end solution, Zhone offers VDSL2 CPE and Central Office (CO) products to provide high-speed, long-reach and low-cost solutions for multi-tenant and multi-dwelling units (MDUs), remote terminals and CO deployments. In the cases where fiber can be extended cost-effectively, Zhone FiberHome will provide Active Ethernet connectivity to enable wire-speed FTTP connectivity.
