OVH.com lays the first brick of its future North American data centre in Beauharnois

(Canada Newswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) ROUBAIX, France, Jan. 26, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - The number-one Internet hoster in Europe is beginning work on its first data centre on North American soil in a portion of the former industrial area of Rio Tinto Alcan that belongs to the City of Beauharnois. This large industrial park will soon be home to the largest data centre in the history of OVH.com.

An ecological data centre with 360,000 servers In keeping with its desire to lower the operating costs of its equipment while limiting the impact on the environment, OVH.com has always mobilized its teams to search for ecological solutions.

In 2003, the company developed an innovative process of water cooling its servers. OVH.com continued on with its research and inaugurated a brand new data centre that embodied a revolutionary concept right beside its head office in Europe in 2011. The centre was built in the shape of a hollow tower, which totally eliminated air conditioning in favour of ventilation, a less energy-consuming alternative. As a result, the data centre has posted a power usage effectiveness (PUE) of 1.10. There is no denying that these technological innovations favourably affect prices. Since the energy costs of these servers are lower, OVH.com clients always end up paying the lowest rates.

Based on this model, the future OVH.com data centre, with construction slated to begin in Beauharnois in early 2012, will be home to 360,000 servers, which represents unprecedented capacity for the hoster, whose entire computer population deployed in France stands at 100,000 machines today.

This project has been in the works for several months and came together thanks to the active support of three Canadian partners the City of Beauharnois, the Centre local de développement (CLD) Beauharnois-Salaberry and Montréal International.

OVH.com - a dynamic presence and an engine of local employment OVH.com has already launched its recruiting campaign on Canadian soil.

One hundred jobs will be created on the Beauharnois site and in the company's Montréal offices. Local suppliers are already reaping the benefits.

OVH.com is seeking people to fit a variety of profiles. IT technicians (networks and equipment), electronics and wiring technicians, IT network technicians (networks and equipment), assembler/controllers and electronic equipment checkers, etc., will have to be filled at the centre, while other positions analysts and IT consultants, software engineers and designers, IT engineers, user support officers and coordinators will round out the team at the downtown Montréal offices.

Everyone wishing to take part in the OVH.com adventure can send their applications to www.ovh.com/jobs. They will have a hand in the spectacular expansion the company has enjoyed and in the development of all of its cutting-edge technologies.

The new data centre in Québec represents the first major stage of the company's foray into the North American market. OVH.com, which is currently the fourth largest hoster* of Internet sites in the world, makes no secret of its ambitions to rank among the top three over time.
