Kindsight Launches Security Analytics to Help Service Providers Better Protect Their Networks and Subscribers
MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA, Jan 25, 2012 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) --
Kindsight, a provider of network-based security and analytics
solutions, today announced Kindsight Security Analytics, a new
platform for service providers to analyze network traffic for malware
and aggregate security statistics onto a single web-based dashboard.
The new platform provides unparalleled insights into subscriber
infections, enabling Internet service providers and mobile operators
to reduce risk within the network and diminish the malicious
consumption of network resources.
Malware on the Internet and mobile networks is growing consistently.
As measured by Kindsight Security Labs, approximately nine to 14
percent of home networks are infected on a typical day. Mobile
malware is also escalating, having increased 400 percent over a three
month period in late 2011. With Kindsight Security Analytics, service
providers are able to see the extent and specific types of malware
among their subscribers, so they may set new policies or take other
actions to address these issues.
"Our new platform provides huge benefits to Internet service
providers and mobile operators by giving them real-time, actionable
security insights which can reduce network risk and improve the
overall service experience," said Brendan Ziolo, VP, Marketing at
Kindsight. "These service providers may also launch value-added
security services using this same platform, which can alert
subscribers and help them remove malware from their home networks or
mobile devices."
Kindsight Security Analytics analyzes Internet traffic for malware
and generates aggregated statistics. It is comprised of four key
components:
-- Network Intrusion Detection System (NIDS-8800) - Sensors are deployed
at strategic locations within the service provider network, typically
at an aggregation or peering point, to analyze traffic for evidence of
malware infections without impact on network performance.
-- Alert Reporting Cluster (ARC) - The cluster contains several
components that are installed at the service provider's datacenter to
process and store events from the sensors. It also triggers real-time
actions against malware detected in the network.
-- Security Analytics Dashboard - A web-based dashboard helps providers
see what threats are occurring within subscriber networks and on their
devices. The dashboard measures the number of infected devices;
malware types observed; historical trends, frequency and recency of
specific malware; malware behavior summaries; periodic infection
reports and outbreak incident bulletins.
-- Signature Update Service - Backed by the proven signature development
and verification process of Kindsight Security Labs, the signature set
provides thorough coverage with low false positives and is continually
updated as the foundation of the Kindsight Security Analytics
platform.
Kindsight has developed advanced technologies for its Security
Analytics offering. The new platform features high performance
network sensors that support 20 Gbps of traffic analysis, more than
100,000 events per minute and can scale to hundreds of millions of
subscribers. It uses signatures, which are continually developed and
updated by Kindsight Security Labs, to detect and pinpoint subscriber
infections from the network traffic. The Security Analytics dashboard
displays data in real-time, sharing the extent and types of
infections found among subscribers, with the ability to drill down
and take action.
