Mellanox announces availability of VMA 6.0 messaging accelerator

Jan 17, 2012 (Datamonitor via COMTEX) -- Mellanox Technologies, Ltd, a supplier of connectivity solutions for data center servers and storage systems, has announced the general availability of its messaging accelerator, VMA 6.0, with enhanced TCP and UDP acceleration support over ConnectX-3 VPI adapter cards.

Enabled with ConnectX-3, VMA 6.0 reportedly provides a unified acceleration platform for all standard application networking communications methods such as TCP, UDP Multicast and UDP unicast, improving application-to-application performance and latency. VMA 6.0 leverages ConnectX-3's hardware capabilities such as hardware-based flow steering, which enables acceleration of flows in a scalable and balanced manner.

VMA 6.0 provides order execution time for enterprise financial firms such as exchanges to increase their competitive positioning. VMA 6.0 and ConnectX-3 adapters include support for PCIe 3.0, delivering future proofing and consistent low-latency for many-core compute platforms.

VMA 6.0 is a dynamically-linked user-space Linux library for accelerating messaging and streaming traffic. Applications that utilize standard BSD sockets use the library to offload network processing from a server's CPU, with zero application changes required. The application traffic is passed to the Mellanox ConnectX-3 10/40GbE or FDR 56Gb/s InfiniBand adapter from the application user space, bypassing the kernel and IP stack and thus minimizing context switching, buffer copies and interruptions resulting in low-latency and higher throughput.

"VMA 6.0 enables the highest performance of any socket-based application over our leading low-latency interconnect solutions," said David Barzilai, vice president of marketing at Mellanox Technologies. "VMA provides data center managers with the technology leadership for low-latency data distribution or high packet rates based applications, resulting in faster executions, lower response time and higher return on investment." http://www.datamonitor.com Republication or redistribution, including by framing or similar means, is expressly prohibited without prior written consent.
