MOROCCO : MAROC TELECOM installs Loukkos fibre optic cable between MOROCCO and SPAIN [TendersInfo (India)]


(TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Maroc Telecom has started installing the Loukkos fibre optic international submarine cable amid Asilah in Morocco and Rota in Spain.

The plan is to expand Morocco's connectivity, improve the security of Maroc Telecom's international traffic and to handle growing traffic from broadband internet.

The 187 kilometres long cable is expected to begin operations in March 2012. The building works will cost around MAD 143 million and will be borne totally by Maroc Telecom.

The providers are CanaLink and Alcatel Submarine Network (ASN). The Loukkos cable will have the first capacity of 80 Gbps which will be enlarge up to 1,280 Gbps.


This Loukkos fibre optic cable is the Maroc Telecom's second submarine cable, the first was the Atlas Offshore which was installed in 2006. The latest fibre optic land cable will eventually join Morocco, Mauritania, Mali and Burkina Faso.
