Entropic Communications, Zenverge Introduce First MoCA 2.0 Based Solution for Streaming and Moving Multimedia to Any Screen

(GlobeNewswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) LAS VEGAS, Jan. 10, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- (INTERNATIONAL CONSUMER ELECTRONICS SHOW 2012 – BOOTH #31253) -- Entropic Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq:ENTR), a leading provider of silicon and software solutions to enable connected home entertainment, and Zenverge, Inc., a leading developer of advanced media integrated circuits (ICs) for the connected home, today introduced a joint reference design, combining Zenverge's powerful quad HD stream transcoding technology with Entropic's MoCA® 2.0 (Multimedia over Coax) silicon solutions. The joint reference design provides service providers a scalable way to offer TV everywhere services by enabling their subscribers the freedom to view their favorite multimedia content on mobile consumer electronics (CE) devices.

As consumers are broadening their viewing habits beyond the traditional TV screen to include mobile display devices such as tablets, smartphones and laptops, service providers require a high performance yet cost-effective solution that not only transcodes high definition (HD) content faster than real-time, but also does so securely. The joint Entropic and Zenverge reference design enables service providers to leverage the speed and security of an in-home MoCA backbone to distribute up to four simultaneously transcoded and transcrypted HD video streams from digital video recorders (DVR), network attached storage devices (NAS) and headless gateways. Alternatively, HD/SD video can be transcoded at up to 16 times faster than real-time, enabling consumers to quickly sync-and-go, transferring content from one CE device to another, over a wired MoCA or wireless home network.

"Service providers appreciate that multi-screen viewing offers a significant revenue growth opportunity, as consumers continue to adopt mobile technologies like the iPad, iPhone and Android-based tablets and smartphones," said Shawn Saleem, executive vice president of Marketing and Strategic Planning, Zenverge. "Our partnership and joint reference design with Entropic positions us to offer even greater value to our customers, our partners and ultimately the consumers." Following a strategic alliance made in 2011, the combined reference design features Zenverge's ZN200 transcoder and Entropic's EN2710 MoCA silicon and is the first design to be delivered to market that combines transcoding with MoCA 2.0, ensuring a seamless content viewing experience throughout the home and on any device. Service providers benefit from Zenverge's high-performance, low-latency digital media IC, which utilizes a video pipeline capable of transcoding up to four independent HD streams or up to 16 independent SD streams. Service providers gain yet another means to monetize their existing MoCA investments, as Entropic's MoCA 2.0 silicon, which is fully backwards interoperable with existing MoCA enabled devices, delivers the most robust, powerful and secure home networking backbone to reliably distribute bandwidth-intensive content to any CE device.

"Our connected home entertainment strategy continues to address the evolving needs of service providers and consumers by being on the forefront of new products with market leading reference designs. A MoCA transcoder product will bring an enhanced user experience to the consumer while driving ARPU for the service provider," said Vinay Gokhale, senior vice president, Marketing and Business Development, Entropic. "Zenverge's architecture provides a cost-effective and scalable solution for viewing multimedia on any device, while Entropic provides the reliable backbone for which service providers can leverage current deployments – delivering a true win-win for consumers and service providers alike."
