Kenya Renews National Fuel Marking Program with Authentix

Authentix, the global leaders in fuel authentication, has been awarded a multi-year renewal of the national fuel marking program in Kenya. Through the ongoing marking program, Authentix has helped Kenya recover tax money that would have otherwise been lost to fuel fraud, ensure fuel quality for motorists and protect the environment.

This program was first implemented in 1998 to curb the illicit adulteration of domestic Kenyan fuel with fuel destined for export to surrounding countries. Less than a year later, the program was expanded to include protection of domestic diesel from dilution with lower quality kerosene.

Since the program began, Authentix has partnered with Kenyan authorities and their operational partner in this program, SGS, to implement significant technology advances that enable the continued efficacy of the program in the face of determined attempts at undermining and laundering by illegal operators in the fuel market. Proprietary Authentix testing technology helps inspectors quickly determine if the fuel in question is legal and whether it has been adulterated with low tax fuels. These tests can be conducted in the field and provide an immediate indication of fuel fraud.
