[December 14, 2011] Alcatel-Lucent's 100 Gigabit Optical Solution selected by Argentina's Cablevision Tweet Dec 14, 2011 (M2 EQUITYBITES via COMTEX) -- Provider of communication technology solutions Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris: ALU) (NYSE: ALU) announced on Tuesday that Cablevision Argentina, a Latin American cable TV and Internet services provider, has selected its next-generation 100G optical coherent networking solution to dramatically increase performance and service speeds to meet the growing demand for video, multimedia and Internet applications from its customers. Cablevision Argentina will reportedly be the first cable operator in South America to deploy an advanced optical networking solution to deliver services at 100 gigabits per second (100G) speeds. Cablevision, which has over three million CATV customers and more than one million Internet users in Argentina , is using Alcatel-Lucent's solution towards providing a highly flexible, future-proof network, scaling up to 100G, to support current and future bandwidth demands with increased efficiencies and reduced time-to-market for new services. Under the contract, financial details of which were not available, Alcatel-Lucent is supplying its 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS) featuring next-generation 100G coherent technology to dramatically improve capacity scalability. Beyond expanding network capacity, the solution will also help Cablevision reduce operating and maintenance costs and lower power consumption, the company said.
