DIRECTV's SKY Brazil Subsidiary Launches First 4G Wireless Network Based on TD-LTE Technology in Latin AmericaEL SEGUNDO, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- DIRECTV's Latin America subsidiary SKY Brazil, the largest satellite TV service in Brazil, has entered the broadband wireless market with the region's first 4G wireless service based on TD-LTE (News - Alert) technology, offering consumers broadband using the fastest and most advanced wireless technology network in the world. The service supports data-intensive applications such as video, music and games popular among Internet users. Beginning today, the service will be available throughout the Brasilia metropolitan footprint, including neighborhoods in that area currently lacking an advanced broadband infrastructure. The equipment will be provided by Nokia Siemens (News - Alert) Networks, a global leader in TD-LTE and other wireless technologies. The new broadband product will be available as part of a bundle with SKY TV or on its own as an individual service. SKY expects to extend the offering to other cities in Brazil where it holds licenses to operate data communication services (DCS) in 2012. DIRECTV is also exploring opportunities to offer wireless broadband services in other parts of Latn America.
