BRIEF: Alvarion reports LTE breakthrough in Canada


Dec 08, 2011 (Globes - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Alvarion Ltd. (Nasdaq: ALVR; TASE: ALVR) today reported a successful test of its 4Motion solution supporting TD-LTE by Canadian rural broadband services provider Xplornet Communications Inc. This was the first trial in Canada that tested 4G TD-LTE technology on existing WiMAX infrastructure, offering a smooth migration from WiMAX to TD-LTE technology, based on a software-defined radio solution from Alvarion.

Alvarion president and CEO Eran Gorev said, "We are committed to responding to the unique needs of rural broadband operators, which include the flexibility to take advantage of the full scope of the 4G device ecosystem as it evolves. Xplornet is bringing advanced broadband capabilities to every Canadian province and territory." Xplornet CEO John Maduri said, "This represents a breakthrough for rural broadband." Alvarion's share price rose 9.2 percent by early afternoon on the TASE today to NIS 3.38, after remaining unchanged at $0.84 on Nasdaq yesterday, giving a market cap of $52 million.
