Start-up Scene Shifting to Germany

BERLIN, Germany and PARIS, France, Dec. 6, 2011, 2011 (Canada NewsWire via COMTEX) -- Le Web 2011 Berlin has quickly become a key hotspot for the start-up scene. This trend is not slowing anytime soon, proven by the recent multimillion dollar investment by Skype's founder in Berlin start-up 6Wunderkinder. And with a national culture of innovation that spans app developers to the auto industry, innovative IT clusters are developing across Germany. Germany Trade & Invest will have experts at this year's Le Web 2011 from December 7-9 in Paris to share new business opportunities in Germany.

"With such a mature and competitive start-up scene in North America, many small businesses are looking to Europe for new opportunities. And with Europe's largest market and one of the world's best telecommunications grids, Germany is a clear choice for a growing number of companies," said Julia Oentrich, IT industry expert at Germany Trade & Invest in Berlin.

The number of mobile Internet users in Germany increased by 78 percent in just one year. Recent studies show that German mobile Internet usage is set to surpass surfing on stationary computers in just a few years, a milestone facilitated by the ubiquitous wireless grid.

The growing market in Germany is also paying off for companies located here: Over 86 percent of IT service providers and 82 percent of software developers report increased revenue in 2011, according to industry association Bitkom.

Germany Trade & Invest is the foreign trade and inward investment promotion agency of the Federal Republic of Germany. The organization advises foreign companies looking to expand their business activities in the German market. It provides information on foreign trade to German companies that seek to enter foreign markets.
