UNITED STATES : NTT America Continues to Highlight Expertise and Investment in Latin American Market [TendersInfo (India)]

(TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) NTT America, a wholly owned U.S. subsidiary of NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com) and a Tier-1 global IP network services provider, recently concluded its participation in AHCIET XXX Reunion de Trafico Internacional.

NTT America's presence at the show was underscored by the participation of David Berrios, director of business development, Latin America, in a panel session titled "Innovation: New Trends in Wholesale Services." During the discussion, Berrios shared his expertise on the emerging telecommunications industry in Latin America and highlighted the investments NTT America has made in the region to date.

"We have long recognized the value the Latin America market can offer the global economy and are committed to serving the needs of the market," said Berrios. "Our heavy investment in infrastructure locally enables Latin America to connect with the rest of the world via a Tier-1 global IP network and vice versa. NTT America's in-depth understanding of the market's needs will enable us to better establish a cost-effective model for seamless connectivity in Latin America." According to Berrios, a primary challenge for wholesale service providers in Latin America is the high cost of undersea cabling. During the discussion, he identified several tactics and technologies that can help offset these costs. Solutions include mitigating Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks domestically to ensure only valuable traffic is being distributed overseas, increasing the prevalence of local Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) to help offset network costs and leveraging new technologies such as 100GigE to increase network efficiencies.

The company's participation in the AHCIET event is yet another indication of its commitment and investment in the Latin American market. At the September Futurecom event in Sao Paulo, Brazil, NTT America in partnership with NTT do Brasil announced that it had expanded the reach of its NTT Communications Global IP Network into Latin America with the establishment of a global IP network Point of Presence (PoP) in Sao Paulo. The new PoP enables Latin American service providers and content networks to gain worldwide connectivity via a Tier-1 network.

AHCIET XXX Reunion de Trafico Internacional brings together influential telecom executives and representatives to discuss challenges and opportunities for broadband growth in Latin America. The event is produced by the Ibero-American Association of Research Centers and Telecommunication Enterprises (AHCIET), a non-profit organization representing more than 50 Latin American and Spanish telecommunications companies.
