Ashgabat, Beijing stand for ensuring security of Turkmenistan-China gas pipeline


Nov 25, 2011 (Trend News Agency - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan -- Turkmen and Chinese governments expressed in the joint declaration "willingness to take efficient measures to ensure security of major oil and gas projects of the two countries, such as the Turkmenistan-China gas pipeline".



The declaration was signed by the Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov, who is on state visit to China (Nov. 22-25) and Chinese President Hu Jintao.

The document's text says that the parties are determined to create a long-term and stable strategic partnership in energy sphere, are ready to make mutually beneficial efforts to ensure a safe and stable operation of the Turkmenistan-China gas pipeline and the implementation of a project on the development of natural gas fields on the right bank of the Amu Darya.


Turkmenistan-China gas pipeline was commissioned in 2009 and built by the Chinese CNPC. According to recent agreements, the communication capacity will be increased to 65 billion cubic meters of gas per year.

The declaration also says that the parties will continue to strengthen cooperation in such fields as trade, investment, transport, communications, chemicals, textiles, agriculture, medicine, high technology, to develop trade and economic cooperation between regions of the two countries, as well as jointly determine and implement new major projects.

The parties agreed to expand cooperation in communications and astronautics. China is willing to continue to assist Turkmenistan in upgrading the national telecommunications network, to render services to launch communication satellites of Turkmenistan and explore the possibility of cooperation in introducing satellite remote sensing. The parties will cooperate in the supply of railway equipment and construction of infrastructure in the two countries' territories.

The parties will promote and protect mutual investments, provide political support for practical cooperation between the two sides and create favorable conditions for it in accordance with national legislation and bilateral agreements.

The parties will contribute to improving the investment climate, development of joint investment projects, promoting and supporting investment activities of their enterprises on the territory of another party. The parties will provide the necessary support to enterprises of both countries in their activities on their territories.

Berdimuhammadov invited Jintao to pay a state visit to Turkmenistan at any convenient time. Chinese President gratefully accepted the invitation and expressed his readiness to visit Turkmenistan at a mutually convenient time.
