Corning Cable chosen as primary supplier of optical fibre cable and hardware for Australian government's NBN initiativeNov 15, 2011 (M2 EQUITYBITES via COMTEX) -- Corning Cable Systems Pty Ltd, which is a part of telecommunications segment of speciality glass and ceramics company Corning Incorporated (NYSE:GLW), disclosed on Monday that it has been chosen for the Australian government's National Broadband Network (NBN) initiative, as a primary supplier of optical fibre cable and hardware to NBN Co. Additionally, Corning Cable said that it signed an over five years' contract with NBN Co for the supply of optical cable and hardware worth up to AUD310m. NBN plans to bring high-speed broadband services to 93% of residential single-family homes (SFU) and 30% of apartments buildings or multi-dwelling units (MDU) within the next decade. The company said this contract supplements the NBN Co contract that was awarded to it in January 2011 as supplier of optical fibre cable and hardware for single-family residences valued at up to AUD1.2bn for which it will invest about AUD25m for related equipment and personnel training in its Clayton, Melbourne facility.
