Northridge Adopts Microsoft Lync 2010, Cuts Monthly Communications Costs by 75%

Oct 31, 2011 (PRWeb.com via COMTEX) -- Northridge recently implemented the third generation of Microsoft's unified communications product, Microsoft Lync 2010. With Lync 2010, Microsoft delivers new features and functionality that improve and expand unified communications (UC) capabilities for businesses such as Northridge who are looking to transform the way they correspond and collaborate.

Northridge cut costs and streamlined operations with the implementation of Lync 2010, formerly known as Office Communications Server (OCS), choosing to deploy the entire Unified Communications (UC) platform, which includes Lync as well as Exchange Unified Messaging.

Prior to the Lync 2010 deployment, Northridge faced complications with its business communications system, which was an open architecture software-based platform. The company faced high operational costs including large overhead associated with change requests and a lease expense. Integration with existing systems was also challenging for Northridge prior to the deployment of Lync 2010, there were no audio or video conferencing capabilities without leveraging an external vendor, and it was nearly impossible to enable remote or mobile employees.

Since adopting the Microsoft Lync UC platform, Northridge has experienced increased business value and a substantial reduction in costs. Benefits include a reduction in operating costs, elimination of a lease expense, ease of expansion, and integration with existing applications such as Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 and Active Directory. Northridge has experienced a 75% reduction in monthly direct costs resulting from the adoption of the Microsoft Lync 2010.

Lync makes collaboration with remote offices, mobile users, and clients easy and timely, as it allows Northridge employees to stay connected from virtually anywhere with an Internet connection. "Lync enables real-time collaboration of the entire workforce, from our highly mobile consultants to our new offices in Argentina and North Carolina," said Scott Middlebrooks, CIO of Northridge. "With Lync, your office is your laptop or mobile device and collaboration with your colleagues or clients never takes more than one or two clicks." Through Lync, Northridge now has built in audio and video conferencing in addition to screen sharing for every employee. The company also has the ability to select multiple vendors for endpoint devices such as headsets and speakerphones. In addition, incorporation of new technologies such as SIP trunking allows Northridge to leverage cost savings and flexibility provided by Internet Telephone Service Providers (ITSPs).
