Viewpoint(TM) Chosen as e-Discovery Platform at Kramer Levin

HOUSTON, Oct. 27, 2011 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- E-Discovery software leader Lateral Data, LP today announced that its Viewpoint(TM) all-in-one e-Discovery platform has been selected as the primary e-Discovery management tool at Kramer Levin Naftalis & Frankel LLP, a premier, full-service law firm with offices in New York, Silicon Valley and Paris. Viewpoint, capable of executing the major phases of the Electronic Discovery Reference Model (EDRM), will be used across the firm's practices beginning in the first quarter of 2012.

As Kramer Levin's e-Discovery management platform, Viewpoint will play an important role in managing Electronically Stored Information (ESI) throughout its litigation matters. Kramer Levin, founded in 1968, employs over 375 lawyers in some 20 practice areas, including its well-known litigation practice. The firm represents Global 1000 and emerging growth companies, institutions and individuals, across a broad range of industries. It opened its Paris office in 1999 and expanded to the West Coast with the debut of its Silicon Valley office this past September to service high-technology and life sciences clients in intellectual property matters, including patent litigation.

Viewpoint, Lateral Data's flagship product, facilitates the primary EDRM components including collection and preservation of data, pre-processing, full processing, analysis, review and production. Featuring an Outlook-style interface that is familiar to most business users, Viewpoint gives users the ability to manage the entire e-Discovery process with one highly-efficient product.

Brendan Schulman, E-Discovery Counsel at Kramer Levin, stated, "The firm's selection of Viewpoint reflects attorneys' desire for an intuitive user interface combined with the latest analytical features. We were looking for a platform that would not only serve us well during routine document review projects, but that would also provide advanced functionality to enable us to efficiently locate the most relevant documents in a case. We expect that Viewpoint will provide our attorneys with a state-of-the-art tool for searching and understanding our litigation documents." Kramer Levin's selection of Viewpoint was the culmination of a two-year evaluation process that began in early 2009. After surveying the e-Discovery market and narrowing its software choices to two finalists, the firm's selection team first became aware of Viewpoint. The advantages of the all-in-one product caused the team to drop one of the finalists in favor of Viewpoint.

"We were very interested in assessing Viewpoint, as it would allow us to combine early case assessment, full processing and a feature-rich document review platform for our attorneys," said Nancy Woods, Legal Technology Services Director at Kramer Levin. "After conducting focus groups with our attorneys, we found them to be excited about the prospect of using Viewpoint. We then worked with Smart Data Consulting, which provided consultative services and hosting for a few of our cases. This allowed us to immediately employ Viewpoint as an end-to-end solution. Once our legal teams gained actual experience with the product, great reviews started coming in. In fact, our attorneys began to specifically request it for future projects." Derek Krabill, Kramer Levin's E-Discovery Manager, added, "The functionality built into Viewpoint provides us with an array of tools that we can draw upon to develop the most cost effective and defensible approaches to document discovery for our clients. We have already taken advantage of Email Thread Suppression and the Near Duplicate similarity viewer in our hosted matters and are very excited about the newly-released workflow automation and other innovative features on the roadmap." "Kramer Levin's choice of Viewpoint, coming after such an exhaustive internal study, is clear indication that a unified e-Discovery platform can satisfy the EDRM needs of a large, diversified law firm," said Matt Berry, Founder and CEO of Lateral Data, LP. "Kramer Levin's team found that one e-Discovery solution will increase productivity, lower costs and improve defensibility when compared to separate processing, review and production tools."
