Panasonic's Attune(R) Wireless Audio System -- Just What the Doctor Ordered

SECAUCUS, NJ, Oct 25, 2011 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) -- Wireless audio systems from Panasonic are assisting medical professionals in improving teamwork and communication at one of the country's top tier medical facilities. The Panasonic Attune(R) wireless audio system, in use at the University of California San Francisco's (UCSF) Cardiac Catheterization EP Lab, enables better communication between physicians, the clinical team and lab operators. Panasonic's optimized digital wireless technology provides the benefits of hands-free convenience, an ergonomic all-in-one configuration with crystal clear audio.

According to Jon Christ, System Sales Manager at Muzak, the supporting Panasonic dealer, the Attune wireless audio system facilitates a more efficient and harmonious environment. He says, "The medical team can talk in normal voice tones and no one is raising their voice. The clarity and intelligibility of the audio is so good, instructions and patient monitoring information does not have to be repeated." Cardiac medical procedures performed in the Catheterization Lab usually require several people to assist with various aspects of the procedure, all under the direction of the physician. Using the Attune wireless headset system with its unidirectional microphone, the doctor can focus on the task at hand, without having to break concentration to look up and speak with an assistant or shout across a room. The doctor simply speaks in a normal tone of voice and can converse with as many as 32 participants.

The Panasonic Attune system is designed with a regulated Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications (DECT) voice technology protocol that operates on the restricted 1.9 GHz band for interference-free audio communication. Attune also features true digital packet diversity to provide exceptional reception and sound quality while virtually eliminating communication dead spots and signal fading. No FCC license is required for operation, nor does it conflict with other wireless systems in use at UCSF like 2.4 GHz wireless audio systems would.

Mr. Christ additionally mentions the benefits of a lightweight wireless headset versus a wired belt-pack configuration.

"The Cath Lab was previously using a wired belt-pack but they weren't satisfied with the design and ergonomics of the system," he said.

"The belt-pack was too bulky and the wires to the headset often became tangled in their clothing or with the medical equipment." Additional benefits of the Attune wireless audio system for this application include a battery life of up to 25 hours in listen mode and eight hours in talk mode, while only requiring a maximum of four hours to charge. Versatile system programming and ease of operation were also factors, along with the reliability and reputation of the Panasonic brand name.

"We couldn't be more pleased with the quality and convenience of the Panasonic system," said Raul Santiago, UCSF Senior Research Specialist, UCSF Medical Center. "It's a cost effective, extremely durable and reliable product that has become an essential tool used in our Cath Lab around the clock." In response to the success of the Attune wireless audio system at UCSF Medical Center, Mr. Christ had requests from two additional Catheterization Lab clinics to assist them in implementing the Attune system.
