Comverge Reduced More Than 16 Gigawatt Hours of Electricity Demand During the 2011 Summer Cooling Season

(GlobeNewswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) NORCROSS, Ga., Oct. 20, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Comverge, Inc. (Nasdaq:COMV), a leading provider of Intelligent Energy Management solutions for Residential and Commercial + Industrial (C+I ) customers, today announced it delivered more than 16 gigawatt hours of energy reduction to its customers during the 2011 summer cooling season that runs from June to September. During historic heat waves that saw peak energy utilization reach record levels, Comverge's reductions helped ensure grid reliability and eliminated the need for utilities and grid operators to use fossil fuel-burning peaking power plants or resort to rolling blackouts. The peak load reduction also helps lower energy bills for all customers by reducing the need for very expensive peak power.

"Exceptional weather conditions placed record-breaking demand on the electricity grid in many parts of the country during this summer," said Comverge's president and chief executive officer, R. Blake Young. "To avoid blackouts and maintain service under such extreme conditions, utilities need proven, enterprise-class solutions that can scale to meet the most complex supply and demand challenges across all customer classes. Comverge has proven its ability to reduce large amounts of energy demand across all customer classes using a suite of fast acting technologies and solutions. Managing peak demand remains an ongoing issue for utilities and grid operators and Comverge's intelligent energy management and demand response solutions provide our customers a clean energy option that does not pollute the environment." Working with nearly 30 local utilities and grid operators between June and September, Comverge successfully executed 109 Residential and 90 C+I events. For the residential events, there were more approximately 3.3 million customer curtailments. The events, which were managed by Comverge's enterprise-class IntelliSOURCE 2.0 platform, controlled more than 430,000 customer endpoints during this cooling season.

"The 209 curtailment events we managed during the 2011 summer cooling season were the most in our company's history," stated Young. "This demonstrates that demand response continues to grow as a critical energy resource." Comverge helped maintain grid reliability during a record breaking heat wave from July 19 to 22 that at its peak put approximately 132 million people under a heat alert and threatened grid reliability in 15 eastern states. During this period, Comverge executed 54 curtailment events that reduced energy demand.

In August, Comverge helped local grid operators and utilities in Texas manage an historic heat wave. By delivering more than 90 MWs of reduced electricity demand to C+I and residential customers, Comverge assisted ERCOT and TXU Energy with reducing the incredible strain on the grid during that time.
