IBM agrees acquisition of Platform ComputingOct 11, 2011 (M2 EQUITYBITES via COMTEX) -- Technology company IBM (NYSE:IBM) has agreed to acquire Platform Computing, a provider of cluster and grid management software for distributed computing environments, the company said today. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Platform Computing's management software helps clients create, integrate and manage shared computing environments that are used in resource-intensive applications such as simulations, computer modelling and analytics. IBM said that, by combining Platform Computing's software with its own high performance systems and software, the company can better serve enterprise clients who are turning to technical computing to reduce the cost and complexity of managing and analysing massive amounts of data in a timely fashion. Platform Computing's operations will be integrated into IBM's Systems and Technology Group. The acquisition is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2011, subject to closing conditions.
