Samsung plans to request preliminary injunction against Apple's iPhone 4S

(Japan Economic Newswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) SEOUL, Oct. 5 -- (Kyodo) _ Samsung Electronics Co. said Wednesday it plans to file separate preliminary injunction motions in Paris and Milan, Italy asking the courts to block the sale of Apple's iPhone 4s in the French and Italian markets.

Samsung's requests will each cite two patent infringements related to wireless telecommunication technology, specifically Wideband Code Division Multiple Access standards for 3G mobile handsets, according to a statement from Samsung.

"The infringed technology is essential to the reliable functioning of telecom networks and devices and Samsung believes that Apple's violation as being too severe and that iPhone 4S should be barred from sales," the statement said.

"Apple has continued to flagrantly violate Samsung's intellectual property rights and free ride on technology, and we will steadfastly protect our intellectual property," it added.
