Qualcomm Atheros and Edimax Technology Partner to Develop Video-over-Wireless BridgeOct 04, 2011 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) -- Qualcomm Atheros, the networking and connectivity subsidiary of Qualcomm, and Edimax Technology, a provider of networking solutions, announced the availability of a new carrier-grade video-over-wireless (VoW) bridge based on the Qualcomm Atheros AR9580 chip at the Broadband World Forum conference in Paris, France. According to a release from both companies, the Edimax WV-A900APN enables seamless, carrier-grade multi-HD video streaming throughout the home and is designed for glitch-free in-home video services distribution. Qualcomm Atheros' three-stream 802.11n solutions are optimized for high-performance VoW applications. The AR9580 integrates Qualcomm Atheros' signal-sustain technology to virtually eliminate packet loss, thereby minimizing latency and providing error-free transmissions. The resulting bridge provides a better experience for end users due to a number of quality-of-service enhancements, including transmit buffering, video stream optimization and range improvement. "The new Edimax VoW bridge highlights the remarkable power and performance capabilities of the Qualcomm Atheros AR9580 solution," said Patrick Ribardiere, director of product management, networking business unit, Qualcomm Atheros. "Integrating Qualcomm Atheros' VoW technology with Edimax's networking capabilities provides new opportunities for carriers looking to strengthen and expand their abilities to wirelessly deliver video content." "Edimax is excited about this great opportunity to work with Qualcomm Atheros to increase the availability of wireless HD video in the home," said Leon Lin, VP of Edimax. "We believe the new VoW bridge will help to make wireless HD video a reality for a broader group of users, as our carrier customers can now more quickly deliver services with exponentially better streaming performance." The Edimax WV-A900APN VoW bridge is available immediately. ((Comments on this story may be sent to [email protected])) |
