Career Education Corporation Earns Spot on 2011 InformationWeek 500 List of Top Technology Innovators Across America

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. --(Business Wire)--

Career Education Corporation (NASDAQ: CECO) (CEC), an international provider of post-secondary education, today announced that it made this year's InformationWeek 500, an annual listing of the nation's most innovative users of business technology. This is the third consecutive year CEC was honored. The 2011 list was revealed this month at a gala awards ceremony at the exclusive InformationWeek 500 Conference.

CEC earned the distinction for its CEC Technology Labs, a dedicated team focused on rapid proofing and prototyping new educational technologies, assessing their value for students and quickly implementing winning concepts. CEC Labs is CEC's approach to nurturing ongoing ideation and accelerating proofing and prototyping activities. Extending CEC's mobile learning strategy and its rapid implementation were one of the focus areas in 2010.

"Technology innovation is expanding education access to a broader array of students, bringing high-quality learning environments to students living busy lives. Our 'fast fail' approach to adopting exciting advances in educational technologies has benefitted our students," said Manoj Kulkarni, Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer. "The CEC Labs excel at quickly identifying and creating new ways to improve the education experience and learning outcomes. Our ideas are brought to life rapidly, making education more accessible and effective."

"Maintaining a separation between disciplined 'keep the lights running'-type work and agile 'proofing and prototyping' work is essential," said CP Jois, Vice President of Enterprise Architecture. "Sustained success of an innovation center focused on the use of technology for improving educational experience and accelerating student outcomes is dependent on having a value masurement model and acknowledging the need to maintain separation on all 3Ps - people, process and product."

CEC made the InformationWeek 500 last year for M.U.S.E.™, or My Unique Student Experience, an online education delivery system that allows students to manage course content based on their optimal learning style - auditory, visual or experiential. In 2009, the company earned recognition on the list for its "campus-in-a-pocket" Mobile Learning (M-Learning) program.

"For 23 years, the InformationWeek 500 has chronicled and honored the most innovative users of business technology," said InformationWeek Editor-In-Chief Rob Preston. "In this day and age, however, being innovative isn't enough. Companies and their IT organizations need to innovate faster than ever before to stay a step or two ahead of their customers, partners, and competitors. This year's ranking placed special emphasis on those high-octane business technology innovators."

InformationWeek identifies and honors the nation's most innovative users of information technology with its annual 500 listing and also tracks the technology, strategies, investments and administrative practices of America's best-known companies. Top winners have included: The Vanguard Group, CME Group, Conway, National Semiconductor, Kimberly-Clark, Hilton Hotels and Unum. The InformationWeek 500 rankings are unique among corporate rankings as it spotlights the power of innovation in information technology, rather than simply identifying the biggest IT spenders.
