Tip leads to arrests in string of robberies

Sep 28, 2011 (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Milwaukee police think they caught the masked man and his accomplice who are responsible for a string of nighttime armed robberies of gas stations and convenience stores in the greater Milwaukee area.

Thanks to a tipster who saw a much-publicized video of the suspects, two alleged robbers have been charged with two counts of armed robbery at Tobacco Outlet Plus at 11712 W. North Ave. on Aug. 22 and S & M Petro Mart at 7520 W. Stevenson St. on Sept. 7, Milwaukee police spokeswoman Anne E. Schwartz said Tuesday.

According to a criminal complaint, the alleged robber, Patrick Gerard Lynch, 51, and alleged getaway driver, Jimmie L. Perkins, 30, also admitted to eight other armed robberies at businesses in Milwaukee, West Allis, Menomonee Falls and Mequon between Aug. 18 and Sept. 10. They face 60 years in prison and fines of $150,000 if convicted.

According to a criminal complaint, the two drove a 1990s model maroon Chevy Caprice to their scene of choice, Lynch walked in and threatened the clerks with a semiautomatic handgun. Perkins drove the car as they fled.

The complaint indicates that investigators were correct in their theory that the suspects used some of the money they obtained for drugs. Police did not say Tuesday whether the tipster will receive the reward that investigators had promised for tips, or how much the reward is.
