Carondelet's top executive in Tucson leaving

Sep 27, 2011 (The Arizona Daily Star - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- After four years at the helm of the local Carondelet Health Network, company president and chief executive officer Ruth W. Brinkely is leaving her job Oct. 16.

Brinkley has accepted a new role as an "executive in residence" with Carondelet's parent company Ascension Health, a Carondelet Health Network announcement says. The announcement says that in her new position, Brinkley will be moving into an advocacy position in Washington D.C., and her work will be related to the new federal healthcare law.

Ascension Health and the Carondelet Board have appointed an Ascension senior vice president -- James K. Beckmann as interim president and chief executive officer. He will start his new role in Arizona Oct. 17.

The Carondelet Health Network, which has a workforce of nearly 4,700, is the 12th largest employer in Southern Arizona, according to the Arizona Daily Star's recent "Star 200" survey of area businesses. It operates four hospitals in Southern Arizona as well as the Carondelet Neurological Institute, primary care and specialty care offices, ambulatory surgery centers and various outpatient services.

"The Ascension Health and Carondelet Health Network Boards of Directors, leadership teams and associates are grateful for the many contributions that Ruth has made to both Ascension Health and Carondelet," Robert J. Henkel, president of healthcare operations and chief operating officer of St. Louis-based Ascention Health, said in a prepared statement. "Ruth has led Carondelet during a very challenging time and her dedication to the health ministry's mission and values has never wavered." ___ (c)2011 The Arizona Daily Star (Tucson, Ariz.)
