Veracode Announces "Back to Security Basics" Webinar Series - Fall 2011BURLINGTON, Mass. --(Business Wire)-- Veracode, Inc., provider of the world's only independent, cloud-based application risk management platform, today announced details of its Fall 2011 "Back to Security Basics" webinar series. The series features educational presentations for developers, security teams and IT managers on various topics associated with application security ranging from best practices for uncovering common software vulnerabilities, to simple tips for protecting against social media-related security risks. The series kicks off on Thursday, September 29 at 11:00 a.m. EDT. "We developed this series based on industry demand for greater education and training around common software security topics," said Sam King, senior vice president, product marketing, Veracode. "For many development and security teams, we understand that it's difficult to set aside time to do their own research on emerging threats or trends. With these webinars, we hope to create greater awareness and dialogue around essential application security information." Following are details on the series of three "Back to Security Basics" sessions:
Wysopal will discuss how applications have become the new perimeter for hackers, and the number one attack vector used in some of today's most high profile breaches like Sony, Epsilon and Google (News - Alert). In addition, Wysopal will outline the basics to understanding the application security risks that organizations face today, the methods and countermeasures to protect applications from a breach, and the frameworks that can be used to integrate application security policy in a user's overall information security practice.
Eng will discuss the de facto "standards" for developing secure applications in many large enterprises-such as OWASP Top 10 and CWE/SANS Top 25 Most Dangerous Programming Errors. Eng will review which web vulnerabilities deserve toppriority as well as methods to identify, track and remediate these vulnerabilities. In addition, he will discuss the impact that potential attacks could have on a company's application portfolio and its customers.
NBC News, Steve Wozniak and Sarah Palin are among high-profile victims of social media hacks. It goes without saying that the ubiquity of social media applications is creating concern amongst enterprise information security organizations in terms of how to manage use of these applications across their workforces. Shields will explore how enterprises can mitigate related security concerns and explore hackers' motivations - Defamation of brand? Or a Trojan Horse for IT and information security professionals - distracting them from the real breaches and threats to ensue? This series of webinars will be held on three consecutive Thursdays, each starting at 11 a.m. EDT. Attendees only need to register once to attend the entire series. The webinars will also be available on-demand following the initial broadcast.
