Off-road racing highlights fundraiser

Sep 21, 2011 (The Sun - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Brewers Restaurant & Sports Bar will host a special off-road racing celebration Thursday evening to benefit the Humane Society of Yuma.

The free event begins at 5:30 p.m. with an off-road vehicle show in the restaurant parking lot, 2331 S. Avenue B.

The show will have at least 14 racing vehicles, including the Tyree Motorsports Lucas Oil short course Pro 2 racer, the TSCO Motorsports Score Trophy Truck and Ford Raptor Pre-Runner.

"If you are into off-road racing, come down and take a picture. It's pretty cool," said Jeff Gapp, a Brewers employee.

After the vehicle show, the festivities will continue inside the restaurant with the premiere of "Desert People 9" at 8 p.m.

The video highlights several off-road races held in the desert Southwest and Baja California, including the Baja 500 in June.

"It is a yearly video that comes out with all the different promoters of the off-road racers nationwide and in Mexico," Gapp said.

A percentage of all food sold Thursday evening will be donated to HSOY. DVDs of "Desert People 9" will also be sold at the event, with all proceeds being donated to HSOY.

Brewers chose to host the benefit for HSOY because "we all like our four-legged friends," Gapp said.
