Gafcon, SharePoint360 Launch "Building Futures" to Support Local Youth Development ProgramsSAN DIEGO --(Business Wire)-- Gafcon, Inc., a leading San Diego-based construction management and consulting firm, and sister company SharePoint360 announce the launch of "Building Futures," a new community involvement and philanthropic initiative focused on youth education and development. Celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2012, Gafcon collaborated with SharePoint360 to create Building Futures to expand the companies' commitment to their local communities and increase efforts to support programs and non-profit organizations dedicated to helping children succeed in life. Since its founding in 1987, Gafcon has supported numerous causes and charities through cash donations, non-profit board service, pro-bono work, and Gafcontributions, the company's employee volunteer program. The new initiative will streamline these efforts and focus all philanthropic efforts on programs that prepare young people for successful futures through opportunities in education, leadership development, life skills training, work experience and mentorship. Gafcon and SharePoint360 together have committed an initial $100,000 in cash contributions, in-kind donations and volunteer time to support community involvement efforts under Building Futures. The initiative will incorporate and build upon many of Gafcon and SharePoint360's existing relationships with youth-serving charities, including Boys & Girls Clubs of East County Foundation, After-School All-Stars of Greater San Diego, San Diego Workforce Partnership and Pro Kids. Executives from Gafcon and SharePoint360 are serving on boards and committees at the charity partner organizations as part of Building Futures. SharePoint360 recently implemented San Diego Workforce Partnership's "Hire-a-Youth" program at its headquarter offices in downtown San Diego, where youth between the ages of 16 and 24 gain valuable hands-on career experience and mentorship through a paid internship program. Gafcon plans to work with its partners and clients to expand the program to its job sites where professional architects, engineers and contractors will mentor interns interested in their respective industries. Both companies will also provide financial contributions and pro-bono consulting services to support youth programs provided by the charity partners. These resources are more important than ever right now, when the need for nonprofits' services is up and donations are down. Boys & Girls Clubs of East County Foundation is a long-time Gafcon charity partner and executive director Jerry Fazio can speak to the value of their partnership: "We are grateful for the genuine, positive relationship we share with the good folks at Gafcon. They have assisted us with fundraising and provided invaluable construction expertise, such as helping us select a contractor to restore our 50-year-old Club in El Cajon's Well Park. Our experience working with Gaf and his team has been most beneficial to the children served by Boys & Girls of East County Foundation, and we look forward to growing our partnership under the Building Futures initiative." "Giving back to the community in ways that help people succeed has always been a significant part of the culture at Gafcon and our sister company, SharePoint360," said Yehudi Gaffen, Gafcon CEO. "Building Futures serves as a platform to take our philanthropic efforts to the next level and will help ensure we strategically focus those efforts to make the biggest impact possible. Supporting youth and education is the perfect fit because it aligns with our teams' passions and with our business in education construction projects." "Gafcon and SharePoint360 work together on many projects, bringing technology and construction management together to provide our clients with industry-specific solutions. We focus on building collaboration that works," said Kevin Harris, CEO of SharePoint360. "Now, through the Building Futures initiative, we have the opportunity to apply our teamwork and shared passion to help build a brighter future for today's youth."
