BRIEF: FBI investigating celeb phone hacking

LOS ANGELES, Sep 15, 2011 (dpa - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The FBI is investigating a phone hacking scandal in which nude photographs of actress Scarlett Johansson and 50 other celebrities were stolen from their smartphones and other digital device, according to a report Wednesday on Eonline.com.

A spokesman for the US federal Burreau of Investigation would not comment on the Johannson pictures specifically, but confirmed that the federal law enforcement agency was on the case.

"The FBI is investigating a person or group responsible for a series of cyber intrusions of high profile figures," FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller told E! News. "This would include many devices -- could mean a computer, desktop, laptop, iPad, cell phone ... intrusions into personal online accounts too." Johannson reportedly turned to the FBI recently after nude photos of her were posted on the internet.

The photos were reportedly obtained in a phone-hacking scandal in March when an intruder stole the nude pictures of 50 celebrities. Photos of Vanessa Hudgens and Blake Lively which surfaced on the web recently are also believed to come from the same series of hacks.
