u-blox Selects Spirent Simulator to Evaluate Performance of New GPS + GLONASS Multi-GNSS Receiver Components

Sep 15, 2011 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) -- u-blox announced it has selected Spirent's GSS6700 Multi-GNSS GPS + GLONASS simulator and Spirent's GSS6400 GPS + GLONASS Record & Playback test system to evaluate performance of its new GNSS receiver components.

According to u-blox, the GSS6700 multi-GNSS simulator is designed to be integrated into an automated test system or with the Spirent SimGEN graphical user interface. The GSS6400 Record & Playback system enables u-blox to capture complex real-world signal effects and then repeatedly replay the RF in the laboratory.

"u-blox conducts testing on all new receiver designs," said Clemens Buergi, VP of Software at u-blox. "To make this process as efficient as possible, we use Spirent's multi-GNSS simulator remotely. Spirent's remote command set enables us to complete the testing in the shortest possible time and in a repeatable way." "Combining Spirent's record and playback system with the GNSS simulator enables u-blox to have a progressive and complete test approach," said John Pottle, Marketing Director at Spirent's Positioning unit. "With the traditional receiver characterization tests, u-blox is able to test for real-world signal effects and classic challenges of navigation systems. An example would be entering and leaving tunnels while simultaneously changing direction in mountainous and alpine driving scenarios." u-blox is a fabless semiconductor provider of embedded positioning and wireless communication solutions for the consumer, industrial and automotive markets.

Spirent Communications is a global provider of test and measurement solutions.
