Intel, Google launch Android partnershipSep 14, 2011 (CORPORATE IT UPDATE via COMTEX) -- 14 September 2011 -- Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) and Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) have formed a tie-up under which Android-based smartphones and tablet computers will be designed to work better with Intel chips, the Financial Times reported. The alliances points to a cooling of relations between Intel and Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT), whose alliance dubbed Wintel had been instrumental for the worldwide adoption of the personal computer. Moreover, Intel also revealed its own series of smartphones and tablets -- all based on Google's Android operating system rather than on Windows -- and said that a number of other manufacturers will release handhelds running on Intel's chips in the first half of 2012. Google's mobile operations head, Andy Rubin, appeared on stage during a speech by Intel chief executive Paul Otellini at an Intel developers conference on Tuesday. Although the duo gave little details of the Intel-optimised versions of Android, Rubin's appearance itself was a key signal of the new alliance.
