Epley Baptist says thank you to emergency service workers

Sep 10, 2011 (News-Democrat & Leader - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Members of Epley Baptist Church are taking time out this week to show the emergency service workers of the community just how important they are to each and everyone of us.

With the 10th anniversary of 9-11 being this Sunday, Epley Baptist felt this was a good time to commemorate the men and woman who put their lives on the line everyday to protect and serve the citizens of Logan County.

The church has made up several "goody" boxes delivered Thursday to the Russellville Police and Fire Departments and the Logan County Sheriff's Department and Ambulance Service.

The boxes are filled with treats including homemade baked goods, fruit snacks, trail mix, snack cakes, chips and salsa, a Bible, the book Courageous and lots of other tasty morsels.

"We felt like this was a good time to recognize these first responders. Sometimes they don't get enough recognition for what they do," said Brother Bill Vaught who is involved with a Christian School in Bowling Green who is observing 9-11 this Friday and are doing something similar to this.

According to Mrs. Chyle, the church wanted to do something for the emergency service workers and since they cannot be in New York where a majority of the 9-11 tragedy occurred, they wanted to reach out to those locally who take care of Logan County throughout the year.

Many people donated to this project and even the kids got involved by making cards. "We want them to know how much we appreciate what they do," said Chyle adding that she had lots of fun shopping for the boxes.
