Delta Charter School and Advanced Academics Launch Intensive Credit Recovery Program for San Joaquin and Surrounding CountiesTRACY, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- Students in San Joaquin and surrounding counties have a new option to help them catch up, get back on track and earn their high school diploma. Delta Charter Plus (DCP) Academy is an accredited credit recovery program jointly launched by Delta Charter School and nationally recognized online learning leader Advanced Academics. The full-time program was specifically created for students in grades 12+ that are in danger of becoming another statistic in California's dropout epidemic. According to a 2010 report by the Foundation for Educational Choice, almost 20 percent of California ninth graders drop out before completing high school. The report, "California's High School Dropouts - Examining the Fiscal Consequences," found steep economic and social costs associated with dropping out. Dropouts experience higher unemployment, poverty and incarceration rates, while their lower personal incomes cost California $54 billion in lost taxes annually. DCP Academy complies with all California graduation requirements and is free to qualifying students. It features a self-paced online curriculum and one-on-one access to state-credentialed teachers. Students enjoy a flexible schedule that lets them complete their schoolwork any time and any place with a computer and an Internet connection. "At Delta Charter, no child is ever left behind," said Stephanie Lytle, Delta Charter School director. "We continue to make strides to meet this generation's educational needs because their success is our society's success. We are excited to launch Delta Charter Plus Academy, which offers students in danger of dropping out the tutoring, support and guidance they need to ensure tat they catch up, graduate and are able to realize their full potential." DCP Academy students will receive a high level of personalized support and assistance while completing the credits needed to earn their diploma. In addition to Advanced Academics online teachers who provide real-time instruction 24 hours a day, students can receive in-person assistance at Delta Charter School resource centers in Tracy and Manteca. Advanced Academics provides the program's learning management system, curriculum and online teaching and support staff. "The economic and societal costs of the nation's dropout epidemic are well documented," said Jeffrey A. Elliott, president of Advanced Academics. "We are pleased to partner with Delta Charter School to offer this innovative online credit recovery program to help students make up missing credits. DCP Academy is an engaging, high-quality program that will help more students graduate from high school and succeed in life." DCP Academy is tuition free to qualifying students living in San Joaquin and surrounding counties. To be eligible, students must be in their fourth year of high school and at least 80 credits deficient in the first semester of their senior year or more than 50 credits deficient in their 2nd semester.
