Finnish Operator, Blue Lake Communications, Offers Higher Speed Broadband and Advanced IPTV Services With Integrated InCoax Networks, Entropic Communications Access Platform

(GlobeNewswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) AMSTERDAM, Netherlands, Sept. 10, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- (IBC2011; Stand 3.A41) -- InCoax Networks, a leading provider of equipment for broadband access over existing in-building coaxial cables, and Entropic Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq:ENTR), a leading provider of silicon and software solutions to enable connected home entertainment, proudly announce Finnish operator Blue Lake Communications (BLC) has deployed the InCoax Gigabit over Coax Access (GoCATM) technology. Focused on giving European broadband service providers the opportunity to bring cost-effective, high-performance connectivity to subscribers, the solution offers high-speed broadband and future IPTV services to its subscribers. The GoCA platform leverages Entropic's Ethernet-over-Coax (EoC) solution, which is based on the widely-deployed MoCA® (Multimedia over Coax Alliance) standard.

BLC is a part of the Finnish Finnet group of 29 local telecom companies, and serves approximately 15,000 subscribers in the eastern part of Finland, mainly in and around the city of Savonlinna. Responding to Finnish government interest that by 2015 at least 98 percent of the population shall have access to 100 Mbps broadband, BLC deployed the GoCA broadband access platform over existing coax networks in apartment houses and buildings, to offer subscribers new premium services, such as high speed Internet, IPTV, IP-telephony and film-on-demand. The use of existing building infrastructure resulted in faster deployment times, at a lower capital expenditure.

The InCoax GoCA platform delivers scalable "last kilometer" high-speed broadband connectivity by leveraging Entropic's EoC technology, which is derived from its field-proven MoCA silicon. The GoCA platform consists of three products with a total capacity of up to 250 Mbps, 500 Mbps or 1000 Mbps serving different building sizes over the existing coaxial network, while delivering 100 Mbps throughput to each subscriber.

About Entropic's EoC Entropic's EoC solution leverages its MoCA silicon, and is comprised of its EN3011 Access Network Controller and the EN3230 access client silicon. A single EoC solution provides over 250 Mbps of raw data bandwidth yielding over 100 Mbps of application throughput and was designed as a low-cost, easy-to-deploy solution using the existing coaxial cable infrastructure already found in multi-dwelling units (MDUs) and single family homes (SFH).

The system is scalable with a single network controller supporting up to 63 clients, with rate control available on a per client basis. By operating above the regular CATV signals and providing frequency agility between 800 MHz and 1500 MHz, additional network controllers can be added to support even more clients to the network.

Supporting quotes: Seppo Hartikainen, ICT Business Director, Blue Lake Communications: "The InCoax GoCA solution, based on Entropic's powerful MoCA technology, raises our technical innovation and our ability to best service our subscribers with advanced whole-home multimedia services over the existing cable infrastructure. Leveraging this simplified design and implementation, we are able to stay highly competitive, and cost-effective in how we are approaching the deployment of our next generation network."  Thomas Svensson, CEO, InCoax Networks: "Our technology is an ideal alternative to existing access technologies due to its high speed and ability to bring fiber to the coax in order to deliver multimedia content and IPTV services; which eliminates the need to drop costly new cabling. By integrating Entropic's EoC technology into our new GoCA platform we're able to meet European broadband access requirements in areas where fiber optic networks do not reach the customer premise."  Vinay Gokhale, senior vice president, Marketing and Business Development, Entropic Communications: "By delivering operator-class robustness with unmatched bandwidth over the longest reach, our EoC solution is the performance benchmark for delivering high bandwidth applications such as multiple streams of high definition video, premium broadband data access tiers, IPTV, and two-way interactive applications. Working closely with InCoax Networks, we were able to satisfy BLC's bandwidth requirements and future-proof their ability to deliver IP-based premium services, enabling greater average revenue per user."About Blue Lake Communications Blue Lake Communications (BLC) offers high-quality and customer-based solutions and services.
